T1 (Trunk Level 1) transmits data over a dedicated, point-to-point line and is used to connect computer networks over long distances. Fiber-optic connections have begun replacing the role of T1 connections, but T1 is still best choice in some cases.
What we do
Openface will install pre-configured routers and any associated hardware at all your connected offices and coordinate the T1 installation with your phone company.
Help me decide
A T1 connection is the right choice for companies that have high network traffic and want the following:
- Secure, virtual private network between offices
- Access speeds fast enough for audio and video conferencing, personal servers, extranets, virtual private networks, e-commerce and Web hosting
Technical details
T1, also known as DS1, is a digital transmission link with a total signaling speed of 1.544 Mbps. A T1 alone provides no services to a location, only a means of getting those services from the network into your office. You must also pay both the T1 (or “loop”) charge and the Internet access port charge. These charges often make the cost of a T1 connection considerably higher than a DSL connection.
